National Anthem Parodies

"The Star Spangled Banner" is sort of a parody to begin with - it was sung to the tune of a drinking song called "To Anacreon in Heaven." Believe it or not, they actually sing it at a FASTER tempo than the original.

Unwieldy as the song is, it's pretty tough to parody, but parodies have been going around for years, of course. I particularly like the one that showed up on The Simpsons a while back:

Oh say can you see
back in row double-Z
that the team sucks out loud
and you fans are all plowed

I THINK this is an original written for the show, but it wouldn't be the first time I thought The Simpsons had made up a song that turned out to be much older. They've featured LOTS of the songs on this site on one episode or another.

From Joe Bethancourt via Kay Shapero:

Jose (Ho-say), can you see any bedbugs on me?
If you do, pick a few, 'cause I got 'em from you!

    O say can you see
    Any bedbugs on me
If you do, take a few
And I'll fry them for you!
